Chicken casserole, with mushrooms and red peppers. Boiled potatos, carrots, leeks, french beans and brocolli on the side. A glass or two of 2014 Chateau Milon, Saint-Émilion, Cuvée Diony.

A couple of nectarines for dessert.

Big baked spud, with loads of cheese, baked beans and fried mushrooms. It was lovely!

Love baked potatos, filled with either tuna mayonaisse or baked beans. Or simply with soured cream with chives.

    Anything that takes my fancy.

I had some picked gherkins today and I chopped a couple up to add to the large pizzas I buy from the Sainsburys deli counter.

Only just had my supper, was out most of the day helping an elderly neighbour. The Police were, according to him, supposed to be going round to him to check his driving license and insurance as they alleged that he/ his car was involved in a hit and run. He had no knowledge of any accident on the day mentioned, and no damage to his car.

I was suspicious, so I made a point of being present. Sure enough the Policeman looked at my neighbours driving license/ insurance, but then said that he wanted to take a statement and that I should go out of the room. My neighbour said that he would like me present. The Policeman said I could only do that if I gave my name and address. I said that that I did not want to, and the Policeman said that I had to. My reply was that I only have to give my name if I am suspected of a crime or am under strong suspicion of having committed a crime.

The Policeman did not like that, and said that he would have to check with the station. I said that he could do that by phone, he said no, he would do that in person at the station.

More cr**p went on and I put the Policeman right on several points of law that I just happened to know. It was quite funny really, he went back to the station to with a few queries about law, but no statement taken.

I'm a usually quiet and meek person, determined though, the Policeman must have though I was a retired Lawyer, or at least legally trained, my neighbour and his wife were very surprised and happy with the way I took charge, stopping the Policeman intimidating the Neighbour.

Supper, coming back home, I met another neighbour, a friend of the elderly one, they asked if I would like some curried chicken, I didn't refuse, had that with potatoes and courgette cooked with garlic, ginger and a little chilli, very nice. Cuppa following shortly.

Nice one, Alex. Don't take any shit and stand up for your rights! When the going gets tough, it's often the 'quiet ones' that get going

I'm a quiet and meek person, too...

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Early supper, or was it late lunch, fresh Haddock pan fried in extra virgin olive oil and butter, garlic, ginger, chilli, paprika and cherry tomatoes, served with mashed potatoes and green peas, was absolutely gorgeous. Should have taken a photo!
