Wot - NO chips...??
Looks nice though, Roy!

No dude, that absolutely IS pizza. You can live in a land of pretence if you like, but that is top gear.
Cooked in a very high temp oven, using an excellent dough base with tomato sauce and mozerella. It doesn't get more authentic. Bit of ham on top. All options were just one topping. All you need.
The extra virgin olive oil was outstanding and an option we went for and applied ourselves.
As for Copacabana beach, well in the 60s and 70s it was probably very nice looking at some pics in the art museum. Not now. Even the network of shops around its back streets is NOT nice. It isn't really a reason to go to Rio at all. But it has to be checked out.
Today we went to Audiopax, which was recommended by Tom (montesquieu). It's really close to Copacabana beach front. 2 minutes walk to the beach. And also to a classic car show. Why? Raining all day. But it's gonna get hot and dry for the rest of the break.
Lol - it might be what they call "pizza" in Brazil, and authentic on that basis, plus undeniably good (as I take your word for that), but it's not an authentic pizza, dude, based on the Italian version, which originated and was invented in Naples!
The base looks too 'bready' and not done in a proper wood-fired oven [mandatory for creating an authentic pizza], and there's nowhere near enough fresh tomato sauce or (fresh buffalo) mozzarella cheese.
*THIS* is an authentic pizza:
Or a similar example, but bigger picture:
Note the difference!
Anyway, I'm not surprised about the olive oil, as they have the right climate and conditions there to produce quality stuff, and it won't have travelled far.
Noted on Copacabana beach. The concrete jungle surrounding it is unfortunately representative of the times we live in. Like you say, it would've been nice to have seen it/been there in the 60s! I also take your point about the network of shops not being "nice".
It may not be 'pretty', in a tourist sense, but that's what makes it REAL, and I love that, as it's where you'll find the locals, which all adds to the colour and vibe of genuine Brazilian life. If we ever visited there, those are the sorts of places we'd be hanging out in
Plus, before we went, we'd have learned how to speak a few words of Spanish...
Anyway, major respect for finding a hi-fi shop Was it any good?
Marco.
That's not a Pizza...This is a Pizza...:-

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”
