    I'm openingabottleofwine.

    Default 2001 Chateau Musar

Just picked up a couple of bottles of 2001 Chateau Musar.

A Lebanese wine from the Bekaa valley, the 2001 was an exceptional year: https://chateaumusar.com/wp-content/...r-Red-2001.pdf

Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault and Carigan grape 14% ABV

I drank a lot of Lebanese wine when I visited Syria in the late '00s, and found them to be much superior to the local grown wines.

I'm looking forward to trying the 2001 vintage, save for a couple of things: the wine must be decanted 24 hours before consumption, and Musar have always used corks which don't age well. This wine is now 19 years old, so the cork will have to be removed very, very carefully, otherwise it will most certainly disintegrate. There are reports that the wine is too old and well past it's best (due to failure of the cork) - but there are a vastly greater number of oenophiles who delight in the tertiary 'nose', taste and finish of this vintage. It would also appear that there are some who don't like the 'earthy' taste and nose of Musar, but I'm not one of them.

So a bit of a calculated gamble - we shall see .....

I had a generous pour of four Roses small batch tonight ,great bourbon!
A friend of mine hooked me up.
I got a very useful tool, if it works off ebay.
A 0-80% refract O meter it measures ABV.
I have to calibrate it first with distilled water to 0 at 68F.
So we will see if it works.
I just pored Larceny over a massive ice cube.
Larceny is a wheated Bourbon 8+ years in wood by Heaven hill.

It was good, sometimes a wheated with ice is just the ticket.
Larceny is a big step upward from Makers Mark, Lots of chocolate ,vanilla ,caramel going on, sweeter on both the nose and taste than most Bourbons.
It holds up well with a really big ice cube. lots of mouth coat so it's hard to hurt it.

    Grant,
What do you know, I followed the calibration instructions to the letter of the law and it works perfectly.
Distilled water at 68F and lots and lots of light.
Took it to 0, I have tested it on a couple different ABV bottles and it's right on the money.
Well worth the $17.00 I paid for it.
