Looks nice, Shaun! Could you describe the flavour? I might be interested in getting a bottle myself. I like something nice and smooth (such as most sherry cask whiskies), and not too peaty or smoky

Ah I see.... Thought as much, as you can usually tell from the pale colour. Laphroaig is the same, and not my thing either.

Sounds interesting (and from the description right up my street), but not sure I'd take a blind punt on an £80 bottle of Dutch whisky!

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

Yes, exactly. I'm more of a Balvenie kind of guy. I bought a bottle of Lagavullin, which is nice, but a little too smoky for my tastes. I like a nice rich, smooth whisky, with a touch of sherry-like sweetness, which slips down nicely - and those ones are usually a deep amber colour

Each to their own. Personally I enjoy a good Islay, and find the Speyside offerings a bit tame...
