Well done Dan I've been through the bargain hunting cold turkey too, feel better for it but I now throw a few hundred into occasional purchases while I would have thought that frivolous a few years ago. The system is sounding better for it mind you

Just trying out my Chinese 5" full range drivers. I bunged them in some spare small Philips reflex boxes for a listen. The sound is way better than anticipated, very transparent and detailed with none of the upper end sizzle I usually hear with twin cone drivers. I reckon a compact 1/4 wave TL box could be the way to go with these.
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!
Are those going to become your main speakers once the Tannoys go?

How much were they Geoff?
Current Lash Up:
TEAC VRDS 701T > Sony TAE1000ESD > Krell KSA50S > JM Labs Focal Electra 926.
Delivered cost for a pair from China worked out at just over £100.
There's a listing here: https://es.aliexpress.com/item/Aucha...OrigTitle=true
There's a quarter wave horn type enclosure design here if anybody can make sense of it. Not what I'll be using.

Looks a bit like the Hi Fi News Paraline design from the 60's, was a great sounding speaker using an 8" Elac unit (8N148 or 8N185). My pair made a terrific sound from a 1 Watt amplifier that I constructed.
