If you can get the drive out, put it in an appropriate 'USB caddy', you should be a able to get most of your data files from there if you have a normal PC...the 'boot' sector's probably corrupt, but usually the data can be accessed. Norton utilities/ghost can be useful here.

And as Tim said earlier you need b'ups of your data, and even better a proper server that allows RAID imaging...otherwise this will keep on happening.
    Cheers, Will

These adaptors are handy if you do decide you want to try and recover your data at some point (if it's possible?). More useful than a straight 3.5" USB Caddy, as you can use them for both SATA & IDE drives, 2.5 & 3.5 inch as well as DVD/CD drives.

Looks like you have a better idea of where you are Neil and hope you get it sorted. Lot's of budding 'geeks' here to lend a hand if you get stuck

Neil. When you get the drive you will need one of these to tell you how to format it. Do you have a manual or any software discs. ?

There is a procedure on the Yamaha in the instructions that tell me how to do it. Basically the HD1300 will do it for me.

Listening to a recording I made a wee bit earlier from the Maxtor HD that Paul sent me the other day that I fitted inside my Yamaha HD1300. So I can use it once again, which is brilliant. This HD is also a fair bit less noisy than the old one, which was always loud in use.

Thank you to everyone that helped, offered advice etc.

The Olive will probably have to go back to Henely.....
