Why are "family cars" big? Surely smaller cars are better suited.

Large cars mean large boots, forcing you to carry far too much "kid crap" everywhere with you.

Also large cars have a lot more rear leg room, putting the kids out of slapping range. How are you supposed to maintain discipline? By text?

I would suggest a much better family car would be a motorbike and sidecar. You would have to wear a helmet, so you don't have to hear the incessant "are we nearly there yet?" or "I need the toilet". Also, only room for one passenger, so no more arguments. The others can get the bus.

Traditional ways of enforcing discipline in the car (to my recollection and in order of escalation):

1) If you don't behave I'm stopping this car.


2) I really mean it, I'll stop the car and you can get out and walk the rest of the way


3) Right if you don't stop it I'm going to stop the car and come round there and give you a belt.


4) I'm going to stop the car! I mean it!


5) Right I'm stopping the car!


6) Stop the car


7) Get out, administer belt.


Then you're good for about ten minutes until it all starts up again and you go back to stage 1.

I think it's a great idea (in the company of an instructor, as outlined), and LONG overdue!

Quite simply, it was utterly ridiculous that you could pass a driving test, with zero experience of using a motorway, and then be expected to go on one and know what you're doing...

As any driver knows, motorway driving, because of the speeds involved, is totally different to any other kind of driving, especially in terms of judging distances and the speed of oncoming traffic, so new drivers really have to be properly trained in how to use them, before being unleashed on them.

Therefore, I'm glad to see that's now happening. It should definitely help improve safety, although it should also be made part of the test. Next what they need to do is make some form of basic mechanical knowledge part of the test (as most don't have a clue), and teach new drivers how to drive in the snow!!

Ah right, lol... I thought you were referring to a new law that's been introduced for motorway driving!

Yeah, that pisses me off too, especially at roundabouts! I'd impose on the spot fines, on the fuckers.
