I like the thoughtful use of a platter weight

Sorry, it is late Friday night and I am feeling grumpy.

Vintage KEF Concerto speakers in Sutton Coldfield. Need a bit of a tidy, but drivers look sound. Excellent old speakers these, a significant cut above your Dovedales and Magnums. BIG sound and surprisingly decent too, transparent mid, plenty of punch and well detailed! Definitely a classic. These are a bit below the radar and comparatively cheap so far, but I predict prices will go silly soon. Well worth grabbing!

I've never read such a load of rubbish.

'custom made from seasoned wood' They're chipboard. It's a butchered pair of Celestion Ditton 15's that have the wrong drive units. A total bodge!

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".

“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

"You don't have free will. You have the appearance of free will.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Has since found out that the "twerters" are stuffed when a hi-fi enthusiast informed him as such. Adds real credibility to his own description saying how wonderful they sounded.

At that price, I thought it might be worth trying, so I did.

Put them in on to replace the Precious Metals Coppertech Alpha on my DAC (Allo Boss ) to Icon Audio 20PP.

I’m not too convinced to be honest. The sound was definitely different (tighter bass and more controlled) but the imaging and space in the soundstage seemed to suffer.

For the moment at least, I’ve gone back to the Precious Metals. May give these a go on an alternative source.

A mainly digital setup with a musical amplifier and endearing 1970's speakers. A CD player that hardly ever gets used and a turntable that is good enough to remind my how enjoyable my old vinyl is. Some cables and things.

In my system the bass is much better controlled and the imaging really did open out. Had some very slight sting in the upper treble at first, but as the running hours are moving on that has gone.

He can't make his mind up about the 50p either: - if it celebrates the D-Day landings that's one thing, but it can't be celebrating the Battle of Britain at the same time (one or the other).

And going back to his first 'love' - he mentions they are 'LOAD' speakers ......... his command of the language is pretty much a load of rubbish !
