Just been on to the council again.

The single street light outside packed up last Saturday. It's the only lighting in the vicinity, so we are now in pitch darkness each night. My nextdoor neighbour is elderly and disabled, but that seems to cut no ice. The switchboard girl said it had been inspected today and would be a routine repair.........Lies! Nobody has visited.

She got the hump when I suggested it might have been dealt with rather more promptly, had it been outside the mayor's house.

Kicked up a stink re the one outside my bedroom. It constantly was cutting out and each time took an age to be fixed, and then lasted a few days. Eventually after a few of us bombarded them they dug it out and rewired that section and put a new on in. Never went out since. Power to the people

I reported this on Monday. Apparently the contractor has five days in which to evaluate what may need doing. Then a further five days to fix. Assuming nothing untoward is found, like a severed cable for instance, then the repair period extends to twenty days. The wonders of privatisation!

I'm fairly certain the issue is a damaged cable. The light failed the same day as a publice utility contractor dug the footway up to lay services about fifty yards away.

My street is lit like Blackpool sea front. Lampost every 30 yards with the new LED white daylight bulbs in them. You could do open heart surgery at midnight with no problem at all.

Never used to be that way, used to be just 2 of the old sodium lights, one at either end of the street, and one would always be broken. Preferred that, personally.

We had the new lamp-posts back in 2004, but they have only just had the white light bulbs installed. There are lights all along the back entry now as well, which is handy, saves wear and tear on my bathroom light.

The local council have just installed a non-illuminated triangular 'School' street sign, one foot in front of an illuminated one. What's that all about?
