I had a Pass X150 and X1 preamp for quite sometime when I was running Magnepan panels. Nice amplifier!

In some ways a shame the Pass didn't have a go with Jerry's Maggies.

Sell the Pass to Firebottle when it's time and we can put that one right

Nah, the Maggies and the Pass would never have met anyway!

Did you get any other 6n6 to try Jerry?

Yes, I have a 'gold grid' version - and it has little gold connections inside.
I think it is a significant improvement on the stock Russian valve in terms of solidity of image and also improvements in resolution.

I also have 2 types of "military" OTK valve to try.

Unfortunately, I have been temporarily distracted ....

    New toy.

My goodness, this is a bit good.
    Awesome clarity.

I've a suspicion that with its pre-amp mode turned off, it will be a great match for the Pure Sound L10 valve pre.
I'll try that in a week or so - I'll enjoy the 851D's standalone performance for a while.

Predictably enough, I couldn't wait a week or so to see what the L10 pre brought to the party. More like an hour or so.

Yup, superb. You can't beat a system with a great active pre, imo.

So is the Cambridge (as a power amp) better than the Pass?

The Cambridge doesn't even try - which is very sensible of it!

    It's a Cambridge 851D digital pre-amp.
8 digital inputs, volume control (switchable), 3 digital filter options.

So the signal goes laptop streaming > 851D digital preamp > L10 > Pass X150.

Apologies, I thought it was some kind of integrated.

no , not really a tube roller ...i get a bit nervous about mucking about with things like that
ou might slip, you might slide, you might
Stumble and fall by the road side
But don't you ever let nobody drag your spirit down
Remember you're walking up to heaven

Don't let nobody turn you around
… Walk with the rich, walk with the poor
Learn from everyone, that's what life is for
And don't you let nobody drag your spirit down
