If bought on-line, I believe that gives some extra rights to you, like returning the item for a refund if within a certain time. Also paying by credit card, debit card, or Paypal, you should also have some protection.
I was going to offer to buy the 306, but see that you sold it. I have Quad II's 303's and a 405-2.

They used to at least reply when i had a cambridge. Werent interested in fixing it mind as it was basically unfixable. Apparently they all went this way and repair was silly money.
Put me off them i have to say. But they are not alone in this. Good customer service from manufacturers is getting thin on ground.

“Nothing discloses real character like the use of power. It is easy for the weak to be gentle. Most people can bear adversity. But if you wish to know what a man really is, give him power. This is the supreme test. It is the glory of Lincoln that, having almost absolute power, he never abused it, except on the side of mercy".
“You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police ... yet in their hearts there is unspoken fear. They are afraid of words and thoughts: words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home -- all the more powerful because forbidden -- terrify them. A little mouse of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic.”

“There's a war out there, old friend. A world war. And it's not about who's got the most bullets. It's about who controls the information. What we see and hear, how we work, what we think... it's all about the information!”

Yes, whoever you paid money to is responsible. I believe you can demand a refund within 30 days as it's faulty.

I'm not sure, but once you allow them to repair it and they get it wrong, you have to allow them another chance to fix it again rather than getting a refund. Perhaps someone knows definitely.

well, after a few emails Cambridge Audio are going to collect the amp, i suppose these things are best done face to face or at least over the phone, but fair play theyre on it now

Excellent, I would take photos of it's condition as it is now, and get a receipt from whoever collects the amp.
