It's interesting - John landloper and I both love 'classical music' - but I'd say there is about a 10% overlap in the things we actually choose to listen to!

Karajan's has always been my fave Tchaik 4.
Superbly paced and played, and just beautiful and bloody exciting by turns!
The orchestral virtuosity in the finale is staggering.

A favourite from bargain label Brilliant Classics, even if the recordings are a little below par [1970s but a tad desiccated]. Cheap, compendious [105 songs], and has texts in French. Ameling takes the laurels here.

On sunday night, Del and I were watching the last night of the Proms, on BBC2, and I was stunned by his amazing voice!

However, I know a lot of classical music lovers aren't much into opera (my Italian genes encourage me to enjoy aspects of it), but for me right now Florez is as good as anyone, and unlike some opera singers, can also turn his hand to 'pop music'.

I've just ordered a few of his albums from Amazon

Lol - will do. I totally get why it's not your thang, as Tenor Arias are somewhat of an acquired taste. It's probably not most people's thang here.

However, I have it 'in me', as it were, to love this sort of music, as my parents played a lot of Caruso, Mario Lanza, Pavarotti, etc, at home when I was a kid (it's an Italian thing), and some of it stuck, so I occasionally enjoy listening to that stuff, along with the likes of Andrea Bocelli and Katherine Jenkins.

Therefore, because Florez does that type of music so well, and also sings some 'Italian classics', on a separate album, that's what attracted me to it

The Fazil Say, however, does look rather interesting!

Volume 24 in Hyperion's Schubert Complete Songs Edition - I think the number of songs recorded runs to some 700 lieder over 40 CDs.
