Tascam 122 mk2
Just picked up another Tascam 122 mk2 Pro Cassette deck for £50.
I was well impressed with my other 122 mk2 and these used to cost around $1000 when new, so when this one came up for 50 quid I took it even if I only keep it for spares

Preamps: Heavily-modified Croft Charisma-X. LDR Stereo Coffee. Power Amps: Tube Distinctions Copper Amp fitted with Tungsol KT-150s. Quad 306.
Cables & Sundries: Mark Grant HDX1 interconnects and digital coaxial cable, plus Mark Grant 6mm UP-LCOFC Van Damme speaker cable. MCRU 'Ultimate' mains leads. Lehmann clone headphone amp with vintage Koss PRO-4AAA headphones.

I was actually surprised how good it sounded probably 85%-90% of what a R2R does but there is a bit of tape hiss.
It doesent have the bottom end extension that R2R has but its pretty damn good
I haven't fettled it properly yest so better things to come?
It sound's markedly better than my Nak BX150E, and has took cassette to another level in my estimation

Nice one, Alan. Pretty much what I thought. If you haven't experimented already, try using the best NOS blank tapes from the 70s and 80s, from the likes of BASF, Scotch, TDK and Maxell, which you can find on Ebay (although not always cheaply), as in my experience they're considerably better than the more modern varieties

From the angle of the photo, I briefly thought the cassette deck had a tiny reel to reel sticking out of the top.Just picked up another Tascam 122 mk2 Pro Cassette deck for £50.

Yes I agree the older tapes sound sweeter my Favorites are TDK SA and Maxell XL11
Just bought 10 x Maxell XL11 from ebay last night said to be 1988
