The morning yesterday was spent in de-Scalfording mode. Emptying car, reconstituting the hifi, taking excess charity sale stuff to charity shop, donating the Łtake.
.... Getting hugs from the lovely charity shop manageress .... hey, it's a difficult job but someone's got to do it.

Then back home and time to relax and listen to a favourite recording ...

Ann Murray - Handel - it doesn't get better than this.

I must get round to watching / listening to Ann Murray's magnificently delightful Xerxes opera on DVD again.

    And then off exploring again.
These are damn fine and will be re-investigated today ...

New to me, and a very promising start I must say. Sound is thrillingly expansive on SACD.

This was immediately appealing and very enjoyable.
I'm not usually drawn to ballet suites, but these are just good orchestral music.

Blown away by the 1st work on this recording.
Cimbalom "concerto" in 7 movements. Loved it - and what a fascinating sound.

And a couple of hours of Zelenka sonatas from this album

^ Weird - we must have been listeng to the Tchaik concerto at about the same time, Malcolm!

    More LPs! ...

I do like Zukerman's playing - one of the best, imo.

Gilels in superb form, Oistrakh being Oistrakh (I am not a fan!).

This is very good, mostly, in a populist ClassicFM kind of way.
A Requiem by Robin Gibb, of Bee Gees fame, and his son RJ.
Really quite affecting. Although personally I can live without the later tracks with solo vocal . The orchestral and choral music is great, though.

Massively negative and patronising review by some pompous twat from the BBC on Amazon.
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Titanic-Requ.../dp/B0070BG10U

That was a bit gooey. Good but gooey. So I needed to cleanse my musical pallette with .... Arne Nordheim .... avant-gardey type music, weird stuff but I quite liked it.

Which led me on to his violin concerto. I quite liked that, too.

And finally that led me on to that thorny old chestnut, the Berg Violin Concerto ..... This has not been well received at Jerry Towers in the past.
I thought I'd give it another go, this time with my fave violinist of the moment Pinchas Zukerman. Conducted by Pierre Boulez.

    Hey, I quite liked it!
