I have on many ocasions being involved with the higher voltage end of electronics [valves] had quite severe shocks, i remember one such instance very vivid, i was testing an amp on the bench, and trying to reduce power supply hum, i tagged a 470uf 450v aerovox cap across the full HT [when it was off ] and turned on the amp, when i had tested what i needed, i unclipped the cap and put it on the bench, still fully charged! after i had finnished for the day i was tidying up my bench as i always do, and without thinking picked up the charged cap, touching both terminals as i did, well, lets just say, there was a lot of shouting, and leaping about, and a couple of holes in my hand where the terminals had burnt through!
not very clever i know, but it taught me a valueable lesson, now i avoid this by fitting discharge resistors!

luvly I had forgoten that one. One of the great jokes for other staff at the shop was to charge up a cap and leave it on the counter for someone else to put away. But not such a heavy duty one, just enough for a shout and and leap in the air

OO OO and another one - a repair techy at the shop who used to draw an arc off a CRT with a screwdiver to light his fag, well one day he got it wrong and now has a neat hole through his finger like it was done with a laser.

Ill check out your welcome area later, usually Im quite happy lurking but it was the change of content in this thread that I noticed. And the fact that the pretance was to keep it on topic. Marco and Richard are charlatans in that respect and nobdy else seems interested in keeping it on topic either.
On the whole I preferred it how it was at least Ashley had some real input as a manufacturer. I shall return to lurking. Oh and I think you do owe JC that apology.
