A Night to Remember (1958) Stars Kenneth More, Ronald Allen, Robert Ayres, Honor Blackman, Michael Goodliffe and Laurence Naismith. William MacQuitty's production of Walter Lord's book is by far the best one imo, and is directed by Roy Ward Baker.
Filmed at Pinewood, and also in Ruislip Lido in London for the sea scenes. more played Second Officer Lightoller, the hero of the film, who went on to serve with distinction in World Wars I and II, rescuing many men at Dunkirk. He died in 1952. Lightoller's son advised Kenneth More on how to play his father and his widow visited the set (and More) to observe the filming.
Watching the restored Blu-Ray version tonightCertainly a film to remember too

Tiz thanks Neil. its one of my favs, as is tonights movie.
"To Kill a Mockingbird" (1962) directed by the late Robert Mulligan, this superb rendition of Harper Lee's book, with a fabulous screenplay by Horton Foote and starring the marvellous Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch. Brock Peters takes a role seemingly made for him in Tom Robinson and Robert Duvall is outstanding as the shy Boo Radley. Mary Badham andPhillip Alford play kids Scout and Jem.
The book is better, but this is one hell of a film and not to be missed, especially in the restored BluRay format.
