    There is software smart enough to identify a gap between tracks such as VinylStudio which is what I've used in the past.

    I used to use something that came with my Xitel Inport. but it doesn't work under Win 8+ or even vista for all I know as I ran XP over newer machines until the death.. It was quite good at sorting the spaces between tracks, but often got it wrong or almost right and then it could take forever to get it all sorted.

    A good editor is Audacity but I have found it has a steep learning curve (for me ) that I've never really got to grips with.

    Exactly why I detest and eschew VU meters on power amps: uninformative, probably inaccurate and downright distracting. Frequency spectrum bargraphs are even worse!
