I can shed some light on why the Yammies didn't sound their best.
Bothe the Croft and KIN Pre Amps reverse phase and in the scramble to assemble the system, which took well over an hour, I forgot to reverse the speaker cables.
They still wouldn't have been perfect as I know there is still work to be done, but they defo would have sounded better than they did.
I know Jimbo did the same thing at NEBO5 and forgot to reverse the leads for his Croft.
Lesson learnt, will do better next time.

Well at least you found the problem mate and it's unlikely that you'll make the same mistake twice . I'll hopefully get to hear the Yamahas in all their glory at NEBO 7 .

Indeed, Jez. However, in my experience (with the Croft) it appears to alter its sound in a weird and unnatural way, why I've no idea, but I know where Ken's coming from.
Ken, don't worry, mate, I've done that plenty of times myself when connecting and disconnecting equipment!
The interesting thing is, I *always* notice eventually that something is up (but without knowing what it is) and that my system's off colour/not sounding right... You know that feeling, when you can't pinpoint anything majorly wrong, but you're just not enjoying the music?
Then I think, hang on a minute, did I reverse the speaker cables on the power amp... I go and check, and BINGO, find out that I hadn't. Then fix it, and instantly normal service is resumed!

Marco/Jez - I think they sound different when I swap the speaker wires round and better when reversed. I don't think I'm kidding myself about that but couldn't back it up in any way, just what me lug holes are telling me.
Mik Rik - Had a look at the site this morning Mick when I walked the dog, just to refresh my memory. It came down and straddled the stream. Engines were on full throttle and went 25 feet underground smashing through the main sewer. Wreckage and the fire ball crossed the stream and killed the horses in the field on the South bank. This field now has houses with Gardens backing on to the stream.

In case anyone is wondering,in Jan 1971,an R.A.F. Vulcan crashed in Wingate[Station Town] Co.Durham.I was in school in nearby Peterlee - Ken was a helluva lot closer and was an eye witness.I have always wondered exactly where the crash site was [turned out to be a few hundred yds away from where I thought.Thanks to Ken for helping, just goes to show it's not only boring to some electronics you get to learn at these meetings.Sorry to divert the thread
