How much do empty Lancasters go for? And these are Lockwoods, one of the finest sounding vintage cabs for Tannoys....re veneer...re formica...I wouldn't buy them as I am sure you could get a nice new set of boxes made for that sort of money which would probably be better

Well, that's where I'm afraid you're wrong - not in the sense of not liking the look of the cabinets (as that's a personal thing), but as Nial was saying, if you want to hear what, say, a pair of 15" Monitor Golds *really* sound like, then trust me, there are NO better cabinets out there - and they could easily be cosmetically refurbished.
Yes, £450 may *appear* to be a lot of dosh for some empty cabs, but not when using them will transform your 15" Tannoy DCs, sonically, into ones able to compete with (and in some areas outperform) speakers from Tannoy's current Prestige range, which cost considerably more!!
And I can say that as a Lockwood Major user (with 15" MGs) who's heard umpteen pairs of modern Tannoys. With vintage speakers, sometimes you have to be prepared to put some effort in to get the right rewards... You can't just expect them to be 'plug & play', or for them always to look lovely
