Received the Dac this morning and connected it to a freshly purchased Pi. Took only 10 minutes to have it fully working with Volumio with external USB HD. is the music coming from usb hd the optimal way of streaming it down? Any weird and wonderful settings that need to be changed for better sound? Played with alsamixer... Still can't comment on the sound but definitely doesn't come close to the analogue.

Martin, with the exception of alsamixer and the analogue comparison your letter (above) ie exactly the same as the one I was going to write!
I too would be interested in any answers you get to the questions you pose.

No serious comparisons yet with the rest of my system but it has made me think about the possibility of a NAS drive.

Any recommendations? Syncology? Zykel?

At present my RPi is linked by a bog-standard Ethernet cable. Would a Cat 5 or 6 make a difference?

Oh, forgot to thank Marco. It's been exciting couple of weeks starting from virtually not knowing anything about rpi to having a fully working digital player in a mamatchbox. Not to mention endless ripping.

You're very welcome, guys. I do like to 'share the love', as it were, but I can take no credit for discovering the RPi (or IQ-Audio DAC). Others were happily using them a long time before me.

Before I started reading your thread earlier in the week I was the owner of an original RPi B that hadn't seen any volts in quite some time.

In less than 5 days I've now got it in a bodged case with a HiFiDiy Sabre DAC board playing music in the downstairs system and upstairs there's an RPi2 all cased up waiting for the arrival of an IQ Dac.

I was aware that people were using XBMC with the Pi - but it all seemed like too much effort....

Your enthusiasm for what you were hearing certainly sparked my interest ( and many others it's apparent) and I have to say what I'm hearing now certainly makes up for an hour or so scratching my head over setting up shares in the library screen - had my share of red X's until I realised that the WD NAS I'm using is still called Public even though I'd moved my music directories out of the public folder. Somewhere in the threads I found the tip about putting the ip address (\\192.168.1.XXX) of the host pc into the address bar of windows explorer to see how that displays the share names

We're ploughing through the orders and as listed on Tindie we expect to ship all this week - that's the plan.

FYI - Tindie take payment, and the vendor gets paid once the item has been shipped. Tindie's support email address is support@tindie.com, tindie also state that vendors have 2 weeks to dispatch goods.

You do not get put back on a waiting list.

I know there are a large number of posts in this thread so maybe you are not reading them all - I posted an update the other day here. Sorry if you missed it.

Yes, thanks Gordon; mine arrived this morning and within ten minutes or so it was up and running.

It reads my USB stick OK but not my mini HD. I fear that it is NOT a question of current but the fact that the HD is formatted for the Mac. Am I right that I'll have to re-format it to some (for me) obscure format such as FAT32?

The spacers included with the kit were of of use for my Pimoroni coupe case. I live near the shop/warehouse so will visit them soon to get some advice/new hardware. I think Gordon said that Pimoroni will shortly receive 50 IQAudio DACs so anyone disappointed that they didn't get any in the present batch may wish to contact them.

I would have thought it was possible to mount it, have a Google there's quite a bit of info out there on mounting a journaled HFS+ partition IE: http://askubuntu.com/questions/33231...t-access-to-os

You could check to see what RPi is seeing as well, SSH into the Pi and type sudo blkid this will tell you what the file system is for the block storage devices the Pi can see.

sudo fdisk -l will tell you more about the device identifiers and the partitions.

Edit: oh, and cat /proc/mounts will list all mounts
