I just got home to find a package containing the case, but not the DAC+ board that I ordered to go with it. So I have now got a bare Raspberry Pi and a nice matt black case, but no DAC!
Quite frustrating really.

The more on/off, off/on that occurs, the more chance there is of something going wrong. The RPi draws a minuscule amount of current, so best just to leave it powered up, but dormant, then wake it up when you want to play moosik.

CD Player: Audiocom-modified Sony X-777ES/DAS-R1 DAC.
Tape Deck: Tandberg TCD 310, fully restored and recalibrated as new by RDE, plus upgraded with heads from the TCD-420a. Also with matching TM4 Norway microphones.
Preamps: Heavily-modified Croft Charisma-X. Power Amps: Tube Distinctions Copper Amp, fitted with Tungsol KT-150s. Quad 306.
Cables & Sundries: Mark Grant HDX1 interconnects and digital coaxial cable, plus Mark Grant 6mm UP-LCOFC Van Damme speaker cable. MCRU 'Ultimate' mains leads. Lehmann clone headphone amp with vintage Koss PRO-4AAA headphones.
Tube Distinctions digital noise filter. VPI HW16.5 record cleaning machine.
Speakers: Tannoy 15MGs in Lockwood cabinets with modified crossovers. 1967 Celestion Ditton 15.

Does it automatically go in to a dormant state after a while?
Are we finding about 30% of the PCM master volume in alsamixer about average? Not disabled the volume in volumio yet.
I've had JazzGrove on for the last hour... the sound is astonishing!

My heart sinks whenever I get one of them cards...the office they take it to us 4 miles away right through the worst of the traffic. Ironically if I lived the other side of the railway line it would be South Tyneside and I could collect from a place a mile down the road.Oh no! A dreaded trip to the Royal Mail sorting office beckons, to a land where the unwashed roam, largely unsupervised, no-one understands English, and parking spaces are a thing of the past.......
