I've tried that and retested it a few times (just to make sure I wasn't wrong), and the results here are much better by-passing a preamp and feeding the Pi directly into a power amp - no question!

Still dont' quite understand but I would install the Spotify app on your Mac in the mean time and just use that. You can get it from their web site.

Sorry, I can't explain it any clearer than I did in my last post. I'll have a look now at installing the Spotify app. When you say web site, do you mean the Apple website or the Spotify one? A link would be good!

Preamps: Heavily-modified Croft Charisma-X. Power Amps: Tube Distinctions Copper Amp, fitted with Tungsol KT-150s. Quad 306.

Cables & Sundries: Mark Grant HDX1 interconnects and digital coaxial cable, plus Mark Grant 6mm UP-LCOFC Van Damme speaker cable. MCRU 'Ultimate' mains leads. Lehmann clone headphone amp with vintage Koss PRO-4AAA headphones.

Tube Distinctions digital noise filter. VPI HW16.5 record cleaning machine.

Speakers: Tannoy 15MGs in Lockwood cabinets with modified crossovers. 1967 Celestion Ditton 15.
