Have you heard Moazrt piano concertos from Salzburg conducted by Vegh? wonderfull stuff

Been really geting into Bohm recently might give my Cd of 6 & 8 a spin later

I'm sure it's just me, as Schiff is a world famous pianist, but I find his playing very generic -- whether it's Bach or Beethoven or Schubert or Mozart, it all sounds the same to me! I hear Schiff not the composer.

Yes, I've heard some of the Mozart / Vegh series .....

the Bach disc looks a great introduction to his music. A very varied selection!

The Beethoven set conducted by Kletzki - an old set of recordings but he was a very fine conductor - I just hope they are in decent condition!
Start with the 5th symphony - I think everyone would recognise the beginning of that!

I spun a couple of them last night, the 1st and 3rd I think it was. Had a look at the other lps and they all seem in excellent condition 😄, seems a bargain for 2quid

Kuerti's Schubert sonatas are world class, imo, but while his Beethoven is good it doesn't quite make it up there with the best.

Ah - now we are cooking with charcoal!
The Op 101 (#28) in Lill's hands is superb.

Oddly, and despite the better known and more illustrious competition from legendary pianists past and present, if I had to pick just one Beethoven piano sonata cycle to take to my desert island I think it would be Lill on ASV.
He has a leonine power and majesty that bowls me over every time - it's how I imagine Beethoven himself would have played them.

... amazing coincidence. I picked this up yesterday in a charity shop (6 mint LPs for £3

) after listening to a CD from the set the previous day!
Chuffed to say the least.

Orchestra sounds a bit scrawny, but the cello is captured superbly, real vibrancy!

Leaving the Don Giovanni for tomorrow

Now listening to some damm good old Beethoven
