As of January 1st, Ian Flemming's James Bond novels have naturally fallen out of copyright in some countries such as Canada and are now fully public domain! 50 years after the author's death, Flemming having died in 1964 and it expiring at the end of that 50th year.
This must be the first time such a thing has happened to such a massively branded Hollywood franchise and is enevitable for all the rest (unless governments around the world are continually bribed to extend copyright terms as has happened in the UK and US with no democratic oversight) so it will interesting what people do with the opportunity.

Move to Canada and write a new bond story, film a new movie.. Although it will bring about some interesting legal problems with copyright control in other countries as any new movie made in Canada would be violating copyright in the US (and UK etc) if publically broadcast! Perhaps we'll see a movie industry pop up in Canada but with straight to DVD for distribution outside of it?
