You must have a massive collection Jerry. My Schubert symphonies extends to: 5, Unfinished, and Great C Major (several copies of the latter two). How few hours do you sleep a day?

I know just what you mean, have you heard Christophe Rousset's harpsichord playing? - he can never be accused of being "selfless and self-effacing to a fault. Just a bit boring"

If you have not heard him, then try his Goldberg Variations on the L'Oiseau-Lyre label. That's a pretty good starting point. :-)

No worries, Graeme - I know of lots of interesting pianists!

I find I have the same problem with Clifford Curzon - 'just the notes' doesn't do it for me - can you imagine Beethoven giving an emotionless performance of his own music? ...
