Just spotted a rather decent Japanese integrated amp on eBay. It may go at a sensible price. I've set a 'snipe' for it. If I win it I'll spill the beans. Watch this space.

I'll pick it up as soon as poss. It's a JVC AX-A441. Very little info on the net. I gather its 70 watts @ 8 ohms.

Just got back in from picking it up. Wow. It's mint and looks new, beautifully made. Heavy bit of kit for its size. I reckon it must have cost a bob or two. The seller was disposing of his late father's pride and joy system and this was the last bit. I'll wire it up tomorrow and give it a spin.

I suspect it may have had a remote control originally. It dates from around 1994 and most upper end Japanese integrateds from around then provided one. There is (almost hidden) what may be a remote sensor on the front panel. Presumably most JVC audio remotes may work.

I'd left JVC by the time this one came out, but I did the launch of the SuperA amps with the AX range. SuperA is a variable bias system developed by JVC and also marketed by Technics as New Class A. The idea is the bias raises and lowers rather than swiching on and off so like Class A there is no switching and cross over distortion, or if there is it's very, very low.

The model you have was one from the top of the range and the build quality of ghe upoer evhelons of the AX range was exemplary. My feeling is that these and the Technics versions are amongst the finest solid state amps ever made. Super low noise, super frequency response and huge dynamics. I would estimate new if made today, you would be looking at around£1500 rrp

Congrats at getting it at that price, suffice to say I have 5 various models from this period in my store.
