Last Gig You Went To...

I went to see Prince on Thursday at the LG Arena in Birmingham.

It was unbelievable, the guy is a born showman, he is right up there with the guitar greats, and played for over 2 and a half hours straight!

Great atmosphere, and even though he didn't play quite a few of my favourites (Sexy MF, Get Off, Cream, Paisley Park, Darling Nikki etc) he put a great setlist together that I couldn't really complain.

I'm seriously contemplating going to see him again on Monday if I can get tickets.

I'd love to see Prince live. I saw Emily Barker at King's Place in February (astounding sounding small venue) and Prince did a surprise show there the night before! There were according to Emily purple feathers still lying around.

A very good week in parts;

Emmylou Harris on Sunday in London where I met and had a chat with Robert Plant, who was standing right outside the door to the hall all by himself waiting for someone inside! What a nice bloke, very down to earth and not up his arse at all. Managed to grab an autograph too. Emmylou was sublime, what a graceful lady.

Sam Baker in Basingstoke on Wednesday - superb performance from a most compelling singer/songwriter.

Madeleine Peyroux in Salisbury last night . . . . .



. . . dreadful. I endured 45 mins before walking out. I would have left earlier but as I was on the front row and right in front of her, it was tricky!

I have Judie Tzuke next week, which I am really looking forward to, not seen her for many years

Joanne Shaw Taylor - The Bowery District, Reading 13.6.14

This was a short notice gig at a smallish club in Reading as a warm for her appearance at the I.O.W festival. The venue was walking distance from my work and Joanne was simply awesome, life don't get much better

Went to Mandela Hall Belfast last night to see Midlake. This is the second time I have seen them live, the first time being a couple of months ago in Vicar Street Dublin. For those who don't know them they are a kind of folk rock band from Denton, Texas and I have previously nominated their album 'The trials of Van Occupanther' in album of the week. Anyway they are bloody fantastic live as they are on disk. If you get the chance I strongly advise you to go and see them!
