Things get a lot more complex with headphones. The 1st and 2nd opamp types can have a dramatic effect. I like the THS4032 in the LIne and the LM4562 in the headphone for the K701. For the HD650 I prefer the LM4562 in both location. My MDR-F1 is happier with LM4562NA in LINE and NE5532FE in headphone.

Ah, but Larry and others are referring to headphones. That's why I pointed out that some recommendations require more than just a mention of an opamp number.

I could start dropping the TPA6120 opamp in the conversation, but then we end up needing 14V~16V supply settings, etc.....

How the line out affects the headphone out is a "secret"? This seems to be more of a disadvantage to your design than anything, certainly not something that would be desirable to implement.

I'll leave you to ponder your opinion. I'll go and watch TV instead. The thread is yours to explain why you think it is a disadvantage. After you have finished, have a look at an amplifier circuit and count the number of different types of transistors with different specifications used in different parts of the amplifier circuit, and why it is done that way.

K done I've tossed out mc3, pin3a and 4a, pcm1716e (whatever that is) and that big ribbony bit in the middle. I'm hearing details like a pin dropping a mile away at a live Steely Dan recording and if I close my eyes, I can swear that I'm at a concert. Pure audio nirvana. I plan to steal your design and sell it with my mods as a totally separate entity, then introduce a new design a few months later and effectively force you out of business.
