I've ordered one of those Chinese linear power supplies I posted a few pages back - Should be interesting.
I also noticed some others from the same seller that I've not seen before...

They all use the standard LM317 circuit with a multi turn potentiometer so you can change/tweak the output easily.

My thoughts exactly Geoff, the transformer alone would be £30 in the UK.
220v input won't be an issue for most but I wouldn't try using it if your mains runs close to 250v as mine used to before the leccy company pulled their finger out... I complained that my mains was 256v for 12 months, they finally sent 2 blokes out to the local transformer who tinkered with it for 3 hours & now I'm a rock steady 238v.
