I used to be a big fan of The Australian Pink Floyd Show and saw them countless times, then they split in half and Brit Floyd was one half with some very competent musicians. First time I saw them was the last and I walked out half way through . . . so it seems they have not improved!

This year has been a bit leaner than normal as I'm trying to save some money!

    So far I have seen the following during 2014;

    • Danny George Wilson
    • Neal Halstead
    • Peter Bruntnell
    • Bill Callahan
    • The Deep Dark Woods
    • Hatful of Rain
    • Austin Lucas
    • Emily Barker & The Red Clay Halo
    • Red Sky July
    • Beth Nielsen Chapman
    • The Lone Bellow
    • Martina McBride
    • Dierks Bentley
    • Dixie Chicks
    • Zac Brown Band

Best act so far from that lot (and by some margin) was The Lone Bellow and the most disappointing, Martina McBride.

Some people have no idea what they're doing and a lot of them are really good at it.

Was taken to see Alexander O'Neil last night at the TFM Soundworks Venue in Middelsbrough
Enjoyed my self greatly, good band and backing, Alex still has a great voice and obviously was enjoying himself, and it showed.
The venue has it's limitations for the sound, but didn't stop my enjoyment of the gig.

Austin Lucas was certainly my most memorable 20 minutes of music (?) this year. Didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

I see he's playing in Brighton on Saturday night. For anyone going to Brighton Audio '14, he'll certainly liven up your weekend.

    Goldfrapp - Reading Hexagon

I was intrigued as to whether Alison Goldfrapp's soaring, seductive, voice would translate to live performance. As it turned out, she can really deliver, with power and amazing vocal range. Madonna, eat your heart out. The first half consisted of several songs from her new album Tales of Us and the second half some storming numbers from her back catalogue. She had us all up and dancing by the end. Will and her backing group were uniformly excellent and the Hexagon sound less unpleasant than many venues.

The Parisian support band, We Were Evergreen, were an interesting mix of influences, primarily Alt-J and the Cocteau Twins. I shall check out their forthcoming album.

    The obligatory fuzzy photo...
