Beresford Bushmaster DAC

I ran a MF M1 HPA as my headphone amp for a couple of years, had the early BM in my set up....in conjunction with senn 650S I found the BM was sonically superior as a head amp. My set up has evolved since then.....I look forward to purchasing a MK2 when funds allow. VFM and enjoyment of music are what this is about.

Me too. I've had to buy some new gear so funds are a bit tight. I was on the list as well. Bad timing is all..

I haven't been here in a while but my experience with the Bushmaster 7530 isn't good. It wouldn't work with signals higher than 96k on optical and the coax input wouldn't play my 176k files. After a while it wouldn't recognize any signals at all so I threw it in the closet and replaced with a Rega DAC. Couple days ago I thought I would get it out and just use for a headphone amp if I could get it to recognize an input. I tried feeding a normal 44k signal via Toslink and coax and it would never pick up either. I could take the cable out of the bushmaster and plug into one of the Rega inputs (I did this with both optical and coax) and the Rega played them immediately. So now I just have a box in my closet that I guess I can just toss out. I didn't report the problem to Beresford, maybe I should have but I thought if it quit working in such a short time I didn't want to mess with it anymore but the Rega doesn't have a headphone jack so that's why I thought I would try to hook it back up. Oh well.

So why didn't you report the problem to Stan?

I have always found his service second to none, and I'm certain he would have sorted the issue for you.

Guess you didn't read my entire post...the answer is in there and like I said it wouldn't play anything above 96k via toslink and it wouldn't play any of my 176k files and I have quite a few of those. I can play all signals up to 192k with the Rega with either coax or toslink and I just happen to like toslink better so that works for me.

I had similar problems and have returned it. Soundwise, that was nothing to be talking about, which was other reason for return even if all worked perfectly.

Once the new mk2 version was out, I showed an interest to buy it, but lost interest because of previous failure.
All the beautiful things I read in forum about Bushmaster, were not like that in my experience.
I am also a bit disappointed with Stan's policy not to be able to extend 30 days return in some cases, as my main system is not in UK and I can not compare properly Bushmaster against other hifi equipment, just in 30 days.

I understand. I'm certainly not knocking anyone here who loves their Bushmaster and have had wonderful luck with it, I just don't have the same experience with the bushmaster that they did. I didn't purchase the bushmaster because it was fairly inexpensive, I purchased it because everyone was talking about how great it sounded and I wanted some of that. I've been very pleased with the Rega DAC, some said that it wasn't up to snuff because the USB only would process up to 48k files but my Beresford didn't have USB and I don't plan to ever use a computer to stream files to my stereo anyway so that didn't bother me at all.

Exactly, I didn't purchase because of affordable price, but because of all nice things I read on forum. I am happy to try and buy again, but with some better return policy if I dont like it, because this forum talk could be misleading. At least this was in my case with Bushmaster.
With Caiman, I found more happiness and joy at the time.

Why don't you guys ask Stan to look at a faulty Bushmaster you have purchased? After all, if it doesn't work and it's in warranty, that's what you should do. Moaning about it here without listening to a working model hardly helps. Oh, and I have read the complete post.


One more thing: the BM doesn't support 176k and doesn't claim to.

I did ask Stan and I got my refund. Thank you to Stan. I am not moaning, just saying what happened. I wish I received that beautiful sounding DAC like others have, but I have not. I was not listening 176k. It did not lock signal from simple cd player....from loads of cd players. I also wish to try new mk2, but I am not encouraged to buy.
