During the past six weeks we have had at least three or four cycles from dry warm autumn weather to full winter and to icy slushy mixed whatever. The christmas eve was white but here we're going again as last night there was some heavy rain and today again +2 degrees of Celcius temperature. Despite the weather did a few hour spin to easy my aching body after the hard and heavy eating and drinking

Tomorrow I'll be heading towards the north and the Lapland to spend few days at the lodge hut near ski resort Ylläs. Hopefully the scenery looks a bit more like proper winter there..

Happy new year 2014 all fellow bike-o-holics!

This winter season has been indeed pretty strange here in northern Finland, warm and wet instead of proper winter. Luckily during the past two weeks we have returned to normal routines and it has been better with temperatures from -10 to -27 degrees of C and there is also some snow around. Have been naturally commuting with my Steamroller as usual and also using my road bike with the trainer inside once or twice a week but today got inspiration (looking at my friends Facebook posts lately) and took my Sawyer our for a short spin at the forest trails and singletracks near our house. The weather was nice -13 degrees of C with virtually no wind, and had a absolute blast to ride slowly around the dark winter scenery. I guess have to do this again soon...

Yesterday had workshop with the bike at our living room, kids acting as service mechanics Replaced old Sram X7 2x10 drivetrain to 1x10 of the better XO series with new broader 11-36 cassette and lighter XX1 chain. Feels really solid combination based on todays 2 hour ride. During the ride the city lights were also nicely shattering from the clouds at lake Kuivasjärvi, so not bad ride. Not bad at all..

Still riding despite the winter has showed it's warm side again and temperature is sailing somewhere around zero. Here doing some small nightride with my cx bike one evening last week..

Yesterday my friend Mr.L had his 50th birthday and the reception was at Hietasaari park and one of its fireplaces. So there we went with the kids to spend the day outside skiing, sliding the hill, and grilling some sausages at the fireplace etc. nice winter activities.

Here is one other guest Mr.K who is also very active member of local fixed gear community, especially everything related to bikepolo. And then wife and daughter of one other community member who were having their saturday ride with their single speed mtbs equipped with kids trailer..

today started my road season for this year with 73km at the zero temperature. Rode mostly main bike lanes and smaller country roads outside the city limits and most of the time was really enjoying the peace and quiet.

I wonder when have started season this early, I mean so that have really ridden some actual roads? Perhaps never. It has indeed been strange winter this year.

Started your road season ??, the roads are still frozen LOL!!!, and how you managed 73k's in that is mind boggling .
incidentally i went out for my 1st tootle this Sunday, partly boyed up by my purchase of a second Canon 50d,
managed 10 miles stopping in between to get used to the camera and was kinda puffed out.
    Frank...made me do it.

“Ride as much or as little, or as long or as short as you feel. But ride.” ~ Eddy Merckx

Have to start getting some mileage after winter as planning to ride at least 200km Brevet during May, perhaps even 400km if feel (too) confident
