    Uh?!

That's the opposite of what you suggest.

Listing it as "For parts or not working order" when you consider it to be fully working is being over cautious about its condition to the benefit of the buyer! It reduces the price you're going to get for it greatly. An unscupulous seller would be saying it's in perfect working order, charge a high price and give minimal help with any faults that then appear (with the seller fully aware that they might).

I guess some people's cynicism knows no boundaries! haha...

Really? How nice of you to say so.

I quote from the ad - < There are no returns or refunds on this item so I've listed it as 'Parts not working'. > That clearly suggests to me the seller doesn't want to help with any faults that might appear and won't take it back under any circumstances. Not cynicism - just reading what's there ...

I wonder if the buyer even realises that they will require what they used to mark as an 'xtal' input to use it, with that nasty ceramic cartridge (that you'll have weeks of fun trying to get a stylus for once it wears out).
It is impossible for anything digital to sound analogue, because it isn't analogue!

Haha... Do you think that was left in for comedy purposes? If that's Nick, he's aged since I last saw him a couple of years ago!

Don't get too huffety! I put the "haha" to show I wasn't having a go at you, just I think you're been unnessecarily negative in this case.

Exactly! The seller is selling it on the basis that there might be faults!

What you are saying is that you think all Spare or Repair items must also be able to be returned for some reason, like the fault isn't exactly as described, has a slightly different fault? You seem to be saying that if an item is marked as spares or repair then the seller also has the responsibility to diagnose and fix those faults..?

Look, if someone marks it as for spares or repair then the bidder/buyer must make an offer or bid to reflect that it might have faults, to reflect that the possibility of having faults has been declared openly and that there is no possibility of return. If they don't take that into account, pay as if it is a brand new item with a guarantee... then that's their stupidity.

The seller wants it sold and out of the way and he's prepared to take a financial hit in order to ensure it's sale, therefore he's marked it as spares or repair. He has also given the heads up in the description that it is fully working as he is concerned, so it could be a good deal for someone.

Tell me how you instead would have sold the item if you wanted a definite sale with no possibility of return? Would you have made up a fault, been effectively dishonest, with the buyer then amazed that the false fault had fixed itself? What if the buyer then asks for a return because it's not as described because it didn't have the fault you said it had? hahaha...

Wasn't someone on here looking for an SME plinth for a Garrard?

    Here's one for a 401 with 12 SME cutout:

Hahaha, yes I get it ...

I am wary of sellers who go to such efforts to make sure there is no possibility of return, that's all - I never buy electronics without a return policy, simple. It's the first time I have seen someone list something for 'parts not working' when it supposedly works perfectly to avoid getting a return. I am not the only one to have been surprised by the terms of the listing.

Anyway, let's move on. You read it one way, I read it another, that's fine.
