It was £3k in 2001, but just look at the engineering! Galvanic isolation (7x transformer windings feeding 16x(?) independent power supplies), extreme attention to component selection and layout, one of the best DAC chips of all time - UltraAnalog D20400A - huge custom toroidal transformer just for the output stage... I'd be willing to pay £1,500+ for it and would expect it to be a significant step up to just about anything around today! Reliability (the DAC chip has been known to fail) might be an issue and near impossible to find a replacement.
