You'll never know if it's inferior, or superior, unless you try one.
It's not difficult to change an arm.

I don't doubt the Dynavector is better, but just how much better is it?
Would I be prepared to pay the difference for the increase in performance? As it probably costs more than my entire system, I very much doubt it.

I'm very much after value for money with my purchases, and I think the Fx-1200 has given me that.
Sure, I don't have the ultimate sound, but I enjoy what I have. After a new platter and cartridge, that will probably do for a while.

I'm not advocating the Dynavector for everyone, Kevin! Sure, it's an expensive arm, although beautifully made, and the law of diminishing returns applies. In my case, I had wanted one for the best part of thirty years so it was wonderful to finally take delivery of one direct from Tokyo production. It's a superb sounding arm (to my ears, much better than an SME V, for instance) but isn't for everyone. I still believe I'm the only person in the world to have mounted one on a Technics SL-1210.

I think it looks superb, but can only ponder what it sounds like.
One day, if I am lucky enough I may be in a position to purchase an arm of the same quality.
At the moment, life has other priorities for my hard earned cash.

Some reviews I have read say that the FXR is better than a SME IV or V, but I think reviews are very subjective.
How this translates to the FX-1200 is another question. The main thing is that the FX-1200 has given me an insight into the higher end, and I am happy with my purchase.

The detail extracted from the vinyl is definitely a step up, and with the AT150MLX I get a really natural sound from my system. I am at the point now of wondering if I need to improve my amplification, cables or speakers to get more from it.
I usually listen on headphones late at night, and I am happy with this element.
However, when the wife is out I use my main speakers.

Knowing Arthur's expertise, and although I haven't heard the FXR, I would expect it to perform well as he has a good handle on low resonance designs.

We can't all be pro woodworkers, thats a great effort. These decks look so much better without all that DJ paraphernalia stuck all over the top.
