For Sale - Radford "BOOKSHELF" Speakers

I am hoping to buy them. Arthur Radford knew what he was doing. They are a little like the Kef Duette, except that, of course, they had a Kef T27 tweeter as well as the B139. These Bookshelf models have the Celestion HF1300 tweeter. Also, Dr. Bailey's long hair wool was used as the filling. I recall IMF used this. Bailey recommended it in a 1968 Wireless World article, I believe.

Yes, I believe that the Radford Bookshelf had a Celestion HF1300 tweeter, and a special lightweight cone version of the KEF B139 bass unit, and that the KEF Duette had a T15 tweeter (not T27), and the standard B139. I have a pair of Duette's, sort of OK for the small size, but cabinet really needs to be bigger.

Well, I got them. One of the tweeters isn't working, but it's a crossover component not the HF1300 and not difficult to repair. The cabinets are superbly built, from solid afromosia, with ply front and back panels. The attention to detail is to the usual Radford standards.

I linked up the working one and, hey, a very good loudspeaker !
They will be ( lovingly ) restored and the crossovers checked and parts replaced where necessary. I have a friend who restores musical instruments and will do any work required on the cabinets.

It is going to be an interesting project...

The crossovers have been re-furbished, the cabinets re-sealed with new draught excluder and all works well.
Beautifully built, with solid Afromosia cabinets and plywood front and back panels. The attention to detail is excellent. They do
look as good as in the photos posted earlier.
With the special lightweight cone B139 and HF1300 do give a very good reproduction. One for somebody's collection...

I have done a little more work on these, sealing the front and back panels with draught excluder.
(The previous type I used wasn't very effective)

After a protracted listen, they are even better than I thought. The bass end is particularly good, the midrange slightly 'distant' and that HF1300 really is sweet and smooth.
I am looking for £85/£90 for them.
Apart from anything else they do look beautifully 'Retro' .
