The Mike New ETP Platter

I have been asked by a couple of folks if I can indeed produce an ETP platter for the LP12,
the answer I believe would be most definitely YES. The SL1200 would be the most complicated platter to try and substitute for and that is why some have come off their bikes!! Until now I have only concentrated on the SL but I will consider making them for the LP12 if there are sufficient people interested.

Do the bearing as well. Then, finally it should be possible to get an LP12 with no Linn parts in it Other than by buying an Ariston RD11 that is!

As might be the case for any deck there are some modifications or replacement parts that don't necessarily bring about improvements that everyone would agree were tangible. In the case of the LP12 any attempts to improve it via adding a dc motor or better subchassis were sneered at by the Linn faithful. Until of course Linn themselves did just those things. Now everyones at it, but Id agree that some of the aftermarket motors & chassis aren't necessarily improvements. Ditto for the 1210. So while in principle its ripe for a bit of judicious tweaking, not all of the possible options represent a worthwhile improvement or great value. It'd probably be worth publishing a list of generally approved & worthwhile mods once a year so that people can easily find out which are worth pursuing.

I see you can now buy a machined, solid Delrin, platter for Rega decks - £20 on eBay...

A Delrin platter for the LP12 is a bit tricky because the resonant frequency of the suspension is partly set by the weight of the platter and Delrin weighs less than the Zamak the Linn platter is made from.

Ah, so one can 'bastardise' Regas as well as Linns, eh?

Seems that this modifying malarkey of supplying "random bits" can be applied to more T/Ts than just the Technics.............

It's not strictly necessary if every upgrade you applied made a positive improvement. You DID check that it sounded better afterwards?
