I had a very pleasant morning with Shane yesterday (Southall-1998) when I went to collect the Klipsch speakers he was selling. Had a good chin-wag about hifi and got to hear his fabulous system.

I had some time to play with them this afternoon. It is a great pity that one of the bass drivers has a problem as I think they are a great sounding pair of speakers. Mind you they need quite a lot of volume to make them sing, so again (in the same way as the KG3's) may be a difficult load despite being fairly sensitive. I have turned the problem bass unit to see if gravity will help align the voice coil. You can stop the distortion by applying pressure to the other side of the cone whilst music is playing.

I will do some googling, but I think that to re-align the voice coil you would have to remove the cone and pole piece dust cover. Quite a lot of work which would mean prising the rubber surround from the speaker casting so that the cone is floating. I will have to see if I think I am brave enough!

Thanks for a painless and pleasant transaction.

I spent an enjoyable few hours this morning with Busybee330 (Bernard) who visited to audition (and buy!) my EAR amplifier. Bernard is a complete gent with good musical taste! It was a pleasure meeting and doing business with you Bernard.

You shouldn't have to remove the centre dust cover Rob.
If you can separate the cone surround from the frame, then you can apply some glue & then before it sets, send a small current via an AAA battery to the terminals for very short periods. This will cause the driver to pulse & if you repeat this a few times, the coil should centre itself within the magnetic field.
