Default Technics needs help in Dulwich SE22

    Gentlemen,

I've a friend in Dulwich, South East London with a SL-1200 and is having a few issues with it...

Is there anybody nearby who could help? I'm about 4700 miles away, and as much as I would like to give him some assistance, it's just not convenient for me...

Anybody willing to lend a hand?

Basic alignment and set-up is all that I think it actually needs. There may be a tonearm lead issue (with the RCAs), and there is a slight grounding problem. It may actually be cartridge related. (He's using a Ortofon Concorde of some type.) If you have a spare, or don't mind bring your headshell/cart with, that would be very helpful for troubleshooting.

    Default I'm here ..... !

Thanks for the intro Jim ,

I just fried the transformer .... LOL ..... I borrowed another turntable and to confirm the issues are with the 1200 .... I was getting distortion on certain FQ's .

I have started the PSU .... again ,not sure what I did ,but I got a noisy transformer then some smoke . My wiring looks fine and no shorts that I can see .

Jim has been amazingly helpful from the other side of the globe , but I need some serious help here in the smoke ..... LOL pun intended !

    TIA , Richard.

Someone with a scope and or distortion analyser would greatly appreciated .... dinner and refreshments will be supplied !
