Music Collections: How Do You Store Yours?

The jewel case goes in the recycle bin

Ooo really - would you give them away / sell them for a small price? as I buy a lot of 'used' CD's these days and find a large number need to have the cases replaced. Also, the 'new' cases you can buy in Tesco are total rubbish, flimsy and nasty... bought a few the other day as I had run out of spares and they are diabolical!!!

I still like to keep all of my CD's in a Jewel case. DVD's (Movies) on the other hand, I put into a metal suitcase which I bought from Amazon and put all of the Keep Cases and Digipak's (including the film sleeves) in the loft in a clear box bought from Staples shortly after importing them onto my iMac via Handbrake for use with the Apple TV

I see a copy of Uncut on the table, is this a magazine you read / buy regularly? I have bought a few good albums based on recommendations from said magazine

I get Uncut every month Paul, used to buy The Word too before they folded, which is a shame as I really rated both their journalism style and balanced music reviews - Uncut can be a little biased at times, still a good read though.

. . . re the cases, you can have them for the cost of sending them too you. I will stop recycling them and keep them for you if they are in good nick. I'll store them until there are enough worth sending over if you would like? I use Parcel2Go for sending bulky stuff which is way cheaper than the Post Office.

Uncut is a great magazine. I used to get it on a monthly basis but stopped due to previous financial issues that are now resolved. My plan is to re-subscribe soon and I agreed that they can be a little biased but on the whole I find it a good read too

One question, from the 3000 CD's you own, do you count Magazine copies as part of that 3000 or separate?

I use sleeves which André recommended from Wilkinson's which are a good grade of plastic, the Tesco ones are very flimsy now. A pack of 50 sleeves are currently £1.70

Nice one Tim, ive done another 180 this morning but ive run out of protective inner bags they use in Japanese edition card sleeve CD's....

btw: i just throw the Jewel case & inserts in the bin, retain the main cover/booklet cos i see CD's as having no real value..

Do you know, I was just getting very excited at the idea of getting 4-5X the quantity of CDs into my current Ikea Benno storage racks. There's a Wilkinson's in town, too.

I used Index Card Filing cabinets {The ones with the square Drawers not the rectangualr}. alphabetize them on the front of the drawer, it's just like flicking through vinyl in a record store CD's are best stashed away out of eyes reach imho..Some people get off being surrounded in massive collections of things like records & CD's, im the reverse..

Or alternativly use a set of wide drawers & adapt them by fitting partitions..
