The original version, it says on the sleeve. Part of my charity shop haul from last week.

Isonoe feet & boots. Ortofon RS-212D tonearm with Denon DL-103GL, in a Denon PCL-300 headshell, fitted with Funk Firm Houdini and Kondo SL-115 pure-silver cartridge leads.

I've always played a bit Marco, it was the only music in the house when I was a kid so it's kind of in my DNA. Except Mozart - my parents over-saturated me with Mozart & I loathe him!

Jochum / Bavarian / Bruckner 9 - one of the very best, imo.
No Mozart, eh?
Yep, I used to dislike his music - but over the years I have been quite won over.
The requiem, string quintets, piano sonatas .... ah, so much unbelievably wonderful music.
Perhaps you'll give it all another go sometime, Chris!

I have the original DGG issue but my Heliodor copy has less vinyl roar. I've found that Heliodor reissues (electronically transcribed for stereo) sound best listened to in mono. In my experience a Denon DL102 gives the best results with these transcriptions, but a stereo cart wired up as mono or a good old mono button on the pre amp are almost as good. This equally applies to Decca ECS transcriptions and transcribed RCA's.

Aha! - yes, that's the earlier mono version - I was referring to Bruckner 9 by Jochum / DG / Berlin Phil as being one of my top faves!
Good, very good, but not great. Nice to have it in my G&S DVD collection, though.
The version live from Central Park with the same cast except for Lansbury, in very poor sonics and visuals, was a lot better, imo.
Big orchestral - very accessible and enjoyable.Why isn't Holmboe better appreciated / better known?
