That should be good Jerry (not that I've heard the Naxos disc . . ).

The other Variations are much later, and IMO not as "good" - but I may not have persevered enough with them. I was at the first performance of these, at the Fairfield Hall in Croydon. Odd concert: a very old Stokowski murdering a Tchaikovsky symphony, IIRC, and Tod Handley conducting the Bliss.

Jordi Savall leads an outstanding performance full of depth and character.
Credo is absolutely spectacular.
One of my favourite albums in any genre and a beautiful recording.

It's quite rare that I venture Haydn-wards these days.
But I really enjoyed the Op20/4 string quartet from this CD.



Very good live recording, too. Set back just a tad, I could 'see' the quartet on stage just left of centre. Lovely!

Possibly not Gregorian Chant in the purest sense but an excellent CD nonetheless and one of my favourite choral albums.

Oh goodness; that's the first CD I ever bought - and it's still one of my favourites! The te Deum especially has never been surpassed on disc.

The whole album has a very natural feeling as if someone simply walked into the abbey and then recorded the monks as they went about their normal day singing prayers etc.

Hey, this is good.
Previously I'd heard Schiff in Bach, Beethoven and Schubert and thought his style was kind of generic - he played all the music the same, regardless.
Having heard this disc, though, I realise that he plays everything as if it were Mozart.
That works well when it's Mozart he is actually playing.

I shall be investigating more of his Mozart.

An all vinyl listening sesh yesterday evening ....

I have the full set of John Lill's Beethoven piano sonatas on CD and I like them very much.
So I couldn't resist snaffling the 6 LP box set of half of them on minty vinyl for £2.99 in a mid-Wales charity shop.



I played three of the LPs yesterday. Near mint and sounding great!

And bought (still cellophane sealed!) and played yesterday ....
