£2,000! It's in excellent but not mint condition, and even if it was, is only worth ~ £500 - 600 at best.

Don't like the look of the overall photograph showing the deck packed up with the speed selector knob in the 45rpm position. How long has it been like that? Not a good idea with the idler wheel engaged!

I bought one complete with an SME 3012 arm and a Shure M55E cartridge a few years ago. Equally "mint", but without the original packing. It cost me £750!

Btw, have you done anything yet with the Gates T/Ts you bought - or have they been consigned to the 'projects in progress' pile, along with your other 30-odd vintage turntables?

The EMI EPU-100 arm was designed to accept EMI's own cartridge. Like Decca with their arms and cartridges, EMI designed their cartridge/arm assemblies as an integral and thus optimal design.

Using the arm with other cartridges (even with the custom made headshell) will be a compromise.

Personally, I'd buy bugger all from someone who seems quite happy vandalising (that cut-out shambles deserves no other description) such a lovely old T/T

Agreed. If I had been the seller, I would have had a new arm board made for the sale. Appearances are everything!

But such is the attraction of these decks these days, that the seller is quite likely to find someone who will pay the asking price - especially as it has the original packaging.

But £2,000? You can buy an EMT 930 for only a little more.

As Barry says, the EPU100 uses plug-in pickup heads and the whole thing is rather lovely. I speak from experience as I used to have a boxed, immaculate one with two heads and stupidly sold it!

Frankly, the headshell on the eBay item that appears to have been knocked up in a GCSE woodwork class does the arm no favours at all IMHO.

The Gates are still awaiting attention. At the moment I'm concentrating on selling some unwanted items to clear the study and replenish the coffers a bit! I'm also awaiting feedback from a friend who's having an idler wheel refurbished as both Gates idlers need re-doing. If he's happy with the work done for him, then they'll be heading to the same place.

Trouble is, if I try and stick to my 'first in-first out' principle there are two and a half pairs of speakers and an ex-BBC Technics SP10 that ought to be sorted out first!

Those Peerless tweeters appear to be the same as on my old TLS50's. If those EMI's are up to it they'll sound fab... Gotta be worth £125.
