Which Tannoys, folks?

The autoformers Hugo got made make a big difference, quite astonishingly so but the circuit does need a tweek along with the type of components used as I'm sure Marco will testify make a substantial difference too.

Much like Marco's XO I use duelund cast resistors but also PIO and a PLIO caps in certain positions. I found that these make for a much more less fatiguing listen but still has a powerful sound with nice sub bass and keeps the delicate Tannoy sound.

I remade the crossovers that Nick did for me but obviously with Nick's knowledge. New boards etc. I went through some serious listening sessions and found a combination of components that I felt brought out the best in the speakers.

I really enjoyed doing it. Now the sound is so much more balanced and precise.

How easy is it to veneer? I'd love to do it, I've got a few projects myself I'd like to do eventually?

Are you going to brace the cabs at all? It worked on some Lancasters I had although those cabs had other shortcomings regarding design. I'd leave the internal damping as-is though, sure you will.

It's not too difficult really, it just takes a little care and patience. The problem arises when you use wood stain as some veneers (such as the one I used) take up more stain in some areas than others leaving a blotchy appearance so I may have to strip one of the panels I've done and start again.

I wont add any bracing but will replace some of the internal damping as the foam Tannoy used is totally ineffective at preventing LF standing waves. I've added some long lambswool wadding to the base and rear panels. the front baffle has no damping at all and I may add some below the drive unit.

Cool... well you are using the best regarding the damping with lambs wool. Should be a great sound.
