New turntable, chez-J!



A refurbed Mitsubishi DP-EC10.
Direct drive.
Fully automatic.
Weighs in at a decent 12Kg, so not a plasticy lightweight.
Not a good match for my Resomat -- sounds better with the heavy rubber mat it comes with. Will try other mats and see what happens.
Sounds good once the heavy clamp in the pic is used , a bit lacking in sonic weight and imaging solidity otherwise.

Better or as good as my Pioneer PL-71?
-- close. Not better, but maybe close enough -- I do like the auto functions!

The Zu103 seems to work nicely. Those Jap arms are very mc-friendly.
I've a DV10X5 on loan to a friend - it will be interesting to see how that gets on in the Mitsu - I rather suspect it will be a fine thing indeed.

New pre-amp at Jerry Towers!

This fine looking (if slightly scuffed) item arrived yesterday ....



A Restek Consens pre-amp.
A small but reasonably hefty offboard PSU and a very hefty metal remote handset comes with it, too.

I've fancied trying something from this German manufacturer for quite a few years, and with my current obsession with pre-amps I just couldn't resist when it came along on eBay.

1st impressions are very favourable indeed. Very articulate, detailed and dynamic. Precise but not etched. Excellent 3D imaging, too - very focussed and images hang in a very convincing way between and behind the speakers. Real bass wallop! This sounds very "high end" - a sophisticated sound, perhaps a tad brightly lit - certainly not dull & boring! - very enjoyable so far.
Very pleased.

Some interesting speaker cables arrived at Jerry Towers yesterday .....



Abbey Road cables by Moving Air. Quite expensive new, I think, in excess of £800. Needless to say, I got them rather cheaper than that on fleaBay.

A hybrid copper/silver conductor layout ....


A very clean and and transparent sound. Maybe too clean for me?
I need to get quite a few more hours in the listening chair with these, some adjustment time is definitely needed!

Good job you paid a lot less for it (and I hope it was a LOT less!)
