Bargains on ebay?

From what I've read, they are good amps Martin.

Well it has more power than my Linn so we'll see if it is noticeable or not. If not something will get sold on, I now have 5 power amps and I only need one. 4 turntables, 10 CD players etc etc. I could open and stock a shop. Mind you I am not the only one on here and far from the worst

Martin, many moons ago a good friend of mine had one of these amps, not the same model, it was an integrated, but I wondered WTF this spontaneous twin drive was...

So I took a look & did some digging... I'll not take the piss as it's a very good idea, simply because the front end of the amp where it needs the best power supply rejection ratio gets a less modulated supply because the output stage is connected to a different one

But in high end kit you'll have a great deal more supplies, though they don't tend to advertise the fact with strange names


Enjoy your amp, I have no doubt it'll be half decent as matey's integrated certainly didn't let the side down

Yep - with high end the price tag and the weight of the things when you pick them up tells you all you need to know I guess. Anyway full report will follow when I get the thing and if it works - and is compatible with my Croft pre 'cause that is going nowhere. Behringer amps don't seem to like Croft for some reason, it bothers me that this may be true with other amps. Gotta suck it and see though.

I've read people on DIYaudio.com discussing the common pitfalls of commercial designs, one that comes up often is that designers don't bother to power the front end of an amp seperately (due to cost).

So that Sony 'gimick' would be seen as very sound design practice by the DIY geeks over there!

I could be wrong but there's a company I know of in NW London who trade in Studio real estate and equipment. I visited earlier in the year looking for some Quad II's, they've got tons of stuff lying around the premises, especially as they'd recently acquired the contents of the EMI studios in Spain. A lot of the stuff is still over there and that's where they sell it from. The young chap I met there was the son of the owner and he seemed to be selling a lot of the Quad gear through himself, it certainly wasn't going through the company books for whatever reason.
