Looks like 3 level controls under the twin tweeters on the right.
My guess is they'd make a good bit of noise if the foam surrounds got replaced.

"High end" Of what? A seriously misused term.
These were fairly cheap cd players that often featured in the adverts of the big bin-end discounters one used to find in WTF magazine. I think they were asking around £100 new back then (10 years or more).
As you say definately not High End - not sure where High End starts but I would suggest around £3K per component new as a rough rule of the thumb?
