Not necessarily a bargain but you do find some really sad stories on ebay ads (OK maybe some shouldn't be taken at face value, but this one makes me want to buy the deck to give it a good home and take care of it...)

Good research - things clearly aren't all rosy.
Nonetheless I don't think that fabricating a story around the Linn would enhance its sale, unless of course it's to suggest "one careful lady owner" when in fact it's been thrashed at parties.
I guess I just like the romance factor of tales about the past lives of turntables

There should not be any need for embellishment stories when selling an LP12, as they have such a cult status that many believe (quite mistakenly) it's the best, regardless, not realising that an lp12 needs expert setting up to give of its best (whatever that is![]()

If this guy is willing to fabricate stories about the reason why he is selling, then it stands to reason that he quite capable of fabricating stories about the state of the turntable as well.

I missed a Sony TS-8000 direct drive deck last night - completely forgot about it!
Went for a bargain £480 or so.. (often more like £850 in a private sale).

Don't say that... I couldn't have afforded it anyway. I think someone around the other forums might have one for sale but at £850..
The Vintage Knob says that there were available in UK but not rest of europe - an oddity that Sony UK did bring over and sold quietly without much fanfair, I guess to pro users?
More good stuff:

Celestion Ditton 662s ... essentially Mk 2 versions of the famous 66s. Much better looking in my opinion!
