I guess it's just because I can't be doing with ambiguity. An awful lot of people seem to assume that you know what they mean when they say something. I usually find that, when you actually get to the root of what somebody says, it is far removed from the original comment.
The opening post on this thread for example. At first glance it seemed that it was from somebody called The Great Wazoo to somebody called Sticky, enquiring as to the origin of his username...I formed my own conclusion and passed by the thread.
I now realise that a 'Sticky' must be some sort of displayed notice that are pinned, or simply stuck onto notice boards.
I also think that the length of my reply will further help you to understand why I am called Pedantic!!

Chose my name when I joined a forum for the first time back in '99. Twas a computer forum and I was having trouble installing a new motherboard and understanding the RAID setup. Received good advice and needed forum name.
Being a fan of the good Captain and seeing two computer references in the name I chose, that's the one I went with and it's been me ever since. Sometimes regret the choice, it seems silly to serious folk, but I guess that's who I am.
I'm a bit of an old farty, love music and computer games, never watch TV, and live in Greenwich, sarf east London.
