Clive these look superb mate, been on a quest to get open baffle right with little success i may add but it is addictive,

Does vic sell the parts for these as i would like to see what i could gather up over the next few months ( no budget for the fully made up speakers)
and i would rather have my own design for the baffles, although yours look superb. i see he is using selenium bass drivers opposed to the ones he has on ebay. What model are these 15" drivers?

All I can say at the moment is that the speakers will likely cost around £2.7k, probably UK only due to shipping such large & heavy items. The is a smaller version with a single bass driver too.

Thought as much with the price of crystal drivers and the gemini tweeters running over 2000 euros! the seleniums are no longer available from parts express ( read Vic's review of them on that site) so think these may well be a discontinued driver which is dissapointing

I take it there is no x-over only the bastanis cap at the tweeter.

I've finally reset the dsp on the new speakers. Using 6 samples per octave they measure pretty well (massive under-statement) and sound even better!!! The drivers are available, Vic has access to bass driver supplies even if Part Express don't.



ps, yes the Bastanis tweeter just has a cap (1st order xover).

That is looking great Clive. Now you just need to add one pair of sub 30db tapped horns and you are in heaven

I assume you use XTZ room analyzer, it is a great piece of kit. Did you do any room analyzer measurements on your old Bastanis Atlas, with four widebands in situ(with old widebands or with Crystals)? The reason why I am asking is that I am just curious to know how do your new speakers differ from the old 4 wideband ones in terms of XTZ measurement.

I'm having a play with some 10W Class A power amps, a pair of these are sounding really rather good.

Listening to the Valvets....where they differ from T-amps in that they have more meat on the bone and greater image depth. T-amps seem to suffer a slight thinness which gives them a strong directness. The Valvets were totally fantastic on jazz last night. They seem good on rock too but I've yet to let them rip fully of rock.

I was all but slaughtered when I dared to suggest the little T amps sounded thin toned, but with the soeakers I was using, and the music I was listening to, I just couldn't deal with it personally, needing a bit more flesh on the bones. Each to their own though


Clive, can you forgive me here, but when I looked at the cases and saw how little is inside them, I put them at £750 the pair absolute top whack or available in kit form for £100 each. Seeing that they're around double that or more and probably have to be imported too................. Such a shame that so called Top End audio carries a price tag way outside of the materials costs

The amps I believe are 1,300 Euros so that's a whisker over £1,000. As they come from Germany this includes VAT.

Such a design indeed looks really simple but the devil will be in the details, getting the right mix of components will have taken a lot of development. Anyone can build something similar, say like a Hiraga circuit but it won't sound good until the parts have been optimised.

They are not available as kits. When pricing the parts we need to bear in mind the 2 MCaps alone cost 40 quid, the parts are of good quality and the amps are hand made in Germany. I feel the price is fair. Also in terms of sound quality my initial feelings are they are the DBs!
